Peasants
At the bottom of the pyramid were the peasants. Out of all the social classes the peasants had the largest population. Peasants gave Egypt a steady food supply. When the peasants weren’t farming, they would work on the pharaoh’s massive building projects, such as pyramids and temples. The peasant revoled around the Nile River and the three seasons. The three season are the flooding season, the planting season, and the havest season.
The Three Seasons
The flooding season lasted form june to September. Throught the flooding season the Nile River flooded the fields and fertiled them too. When the Nile flooded the field, the farmers weren't able to farm on the field until the water went down on the fields. During this time, the peasants worked on the royal projects and the also worked the pyramids and temples.
The planting season took place during October. The farmers would scatter seeds all over the farmers fields. The biggest crop made from the seeds where wheat and barley. The peasant would scatter the seeds on the fields in pairs. The farmers would then eased the the ground of the earth by using a plow pulled by cattle. Then, a second person, usually the farmers wife would follow behind and distribute the seeds. The farmers would water the land carefully over the planting season.
In March the harvest season started. The harvest season took a lot of time and effort. Everyone would work from dawn to dusk to harvest. To help the time fly by faster, the peasants would sing songs, and sometimes, there would be musicians playing in the field to also help the time pass by faster. The harvest season took a lot of work that the farmer's entire family have to help with the harvest. The men would cut down the plants with sickles . The women and children would have to gather the tall sticks of grain.
