Government Officials
Below the Pharaoh’s were the Government Officials. The three important Government Officials were the viziers, the chief treasurer, and the general of the armies. The government officials mainly followed the Pharaoh's orders. Most of the government officials came from noble families. They enjoyed their time at the top of the pyramid under the Pharaoh’s along with their wealth and power.
The vizier had more power than anyone except for the Pharaohs. The viziers job was to counsel the Pharaoh and fulfill the Pharaohs orders. The vizier also determined and overlooked most of the government officials. Vizier's were often brought to the judges toughest cases. When the vizier was brought to the case they were not allowed to favor one side to either sides in a disputation. Viziers often wore white, the color of neutrality.
The chief treasurer looked after the government's riches. they mainly collected the taxes. Egypt ran on goods rather than money. For example, citizens paid their taxes in grain, cows, cloth, silver, and sometimes beer.
The general of the armies was the top military commander in Ancient Egypt. He told the Pharaohs what to do in the matters of warned national security (how to protect Egypt's border borders from invaders). They also help the Pharaoh's make alliances with other kingdoms.
